When it comes to renovating or updating your home, most people think it’s a onetime deal because of the amount of effort and often money that is involved. But that couldn’t be further from the truth! You see as your life evolves, your home will also need to be adapted to each new life phase you live… single, couple, family, empty nesters, home business and ultimately retired and possibly single again.

– Usually when you first move out of home either as a single or as a couple, the furniture you buy is often ‘cost effective’ meaning, your wage isn’t enormous as you start work so you probably will rent initially and the furniture you first buy won’t last 20 years.

– When you settle into a relationship, you often combine furniture and look to own a home together. Usually you combine whatever furniture and belongings you have which often doesn’t work fabulously together.

– Then as you begin your family you require an entirely different set of needs from both your home layout and furniture which often leads to a renovation or moving into a larger home.

– As the children finally leave home you then have additional ‘spare’ rooms that possibly the grandchildren may use for stay-overs, or you can utilise as a larger home office, craft room, library… and you also need to cull excess furniture such as beds etc.

– Next when you are retired and the grandchildren are grown you may decide to downsize to a 2 bedroom home or move into a over 50’s living village where you again need to reduce excess furniture and simplify living to see you into the later phase of life.

Clearly you will evolve a great deal throughout your life in a multitude of ways which is why it is important to ensure your surroundings: your home, keeps up with your life and lifestyle at each life phase.

And that is exciting!  You will get to redefine or reinvent your home life as your life moves into the next phase. Now it doesn’t have to be an enormous expense or a mammoth task each time, it is up to you how you wish to move into each stage and, how you need to adapt your home.

But make no mistake you will definitely need to adjust when you require more living space and furniture or less living space and less furniture.  So how could you possibly finish renovating, upgrading and styling your home with a life full of living!

I say embrace the changes when the time comes, have fun redefining your home to suit your lifestyle and enjoy each day. Additionally  there will be an abundance of new and exciting furniture, décor and living styles to experience as life moves forward with items that haven’t even been imagined or created yet.
