How To Style Your Home Easily

When you begin to style, renovate, or design your home it’s super exciting to be in the position to finally check off owning and living in your dream home. Of course you want to style your home easily as the realisation that you have total control over all selections and that the buck truly stops with you sinks in leaving you feeling a little daunted. That’s why this top tip will help you stay true to you on your journey.

Don’ Get Caught in Comparison Overwhelm!

Understandably to feel prepared for your project you have probably watched every home design TV show, flipped through all the magazines and toured many display home villages. You’ve probably also quizzed friends who recently completed renovations and basically have chatted with anyone interested in your new plans – we all have!

All this to gain inspiration, gather new ideas, view the latest trends, see how 5 couples can create different spaces with the same shop selections etc. You’ve also most likely spent countless hours pouring over the latest gadgets and tech, home theatre spaces, kitchen and butler’s pantry options, master suite inclusions and more. And it’s all because you want to create your dream home.

But the downside to such thoroughness is often comparison overwhelm!

This is a common trap where the more you see the more you want more items in your project… but it couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, comparison overwhelm can lead to a budget blow out and worse still, feeling deflated that you aren’t able to have everything you have seen. This can then leave you feeling your home may not match up to or be as good as those amazing looking homes on the TV shows, in the magazines or even friends’ homes, and these feelings can sink your project before you’ve even started!

That is why this is such an important tip to be aware of as you move forward. So, how do you style your home easily to avoid comparison overwhelm?

First and foremost: Stay true to you! Create a home that delivers what is most important for you, your family and lifestyle. Here are the key pointers how:

1. Make a list of what you need your home to provide for your family and lifestyle and stick to it – create a functional home that is beautiful

2. Create a realistic budget and stick to it – if you can’t afford something put it on a future list rather than live beyond your means, especially in the current economy

3. Be mindful when you see a ‘must have’ item – ask yourself exactly how it fits into your home style or upgrade list – life really won’t end because you don’t have an enormous butler’s pantry, media room or 2 wall ovens

4. Plan to split upgrades – you don’t need to renovate everything in one go, you can always add more items at a later date. Decide on the most urgent items and how they fit into your budget then plan when you can complete the next upgrades with ease

These days there is a multitude of upgrades available for all areas of the home market. They target our emotions and how we think we need to live our ‘best life’ with clever branding. When you are aware of this you can focus on what you truly need your home to deliver, what you can afford and not get swamped in comparing your home to any other home.

And that’s beauty of being uniquely you, there is no one else in the universe just like you – stay true to you and your unique style and you will create your dream home suited to your family and lifestyle… and that my friend is truly perfect.
